How it works

Four steps, at your own pace.

  1. 01

    Upload your statements

Twelve months of bank statements as CSV or Excel downloads, plus PDFs of valuations, pension CETVs, payslips and debts.

  2. 02

    Check the periods add up

We reconcile every running balance so you can see each statement is complete before anything is totalled.

  3. 03

    Review in plain English

Most transactions are sorted automatically. You choose a category for the rest, in everyday words.

  4. 04

    Download your schedule

Sign your own statement of truth, then download a PDF and Excel schedule with every figure traced to its row or page.

What you get

Every figure, traced to where it came from.

Reconciled statements

Each running balance checked, so gaps and breaks show up before totals do.

“Have you included this?”

Gentle reminders about accounts, sales and payments in your own statements that are easy to miss.

PDF and Excel schedule

Form E Section 2 figures with statement rows and document pages listed against each line.

Private, then deleted

Stored privately in the UK/EU where possible, with expiring download links and automatic deletion.

Check their Form E · £99

Been sent their Form E? Check it against their statements.

Questionnaires are due 14 days before the First Appointment, so it helps to start early. Documents disclosed in financial remedy proceedings may only be used for those proceedings.

Start · £99
  1. 01

    Upload what they sent you

Their Form E and their bank statements — CSV is best, Excel or PDF also accepted.

  2. 02

    See what doesn't match

We flag accounts, income, pensions, cash and payments that don't line up with what was declared — each with the statement lines behind it.

  3. 03

    Get your files

A findings report (PDF, Excel and CSV) and a draft questionnaire of up to 4 pages, in neutral wording, for you to review.

  4. You decide which findings to keep. The questionnaire is a draft, not legal advice.

When to get help

Speak to a solicitor if…

SeparationSense works best for straightforward finances. Some situations need a professional.

  • you or your former partner own a business or company shares
  • there are trusts, overseas property or overseas accounts
  • you are worried about domestic abuse or your safety
  • you think assets are being hidden or moved
  • a pension is large or complicated (for example, a defined benefit scheme)
  • a court has set a deadline you are unsure you can meet

Find a family solicitor through the Law Society, or read free guides at Advicenow. If you are in danger, call 999.

Straight answers

Before you start.

Is this a solicitor or a court service?
No. SeparationSense is a self-serve tool from SmartScanit Group Ltd. It is not a law firm, not part of HMCTS and not legal advice. It helps you organise your own figures.
Does anyone at SmartScanit check my figures?
No. You review and confirm everything yourself, and you sign your own statement of truth. If you want someone to check it, speak to a solicitor or mediator.
What does the schedule cover?
The financial figures for Form E Section 2: bank and savings balances, property, pensions, other assets, debts and net income, each traced back to a statement row or document page.
Which statement files work?
CSV or Excel (.xlsx) downloads from online banking. Most UK banks offer one. PDF statements can be added as supporting documents, with figures entered by hand.
What happens to my data?
Everything you upload or enter is deleted automatically 90 days after you pay (unpaid cases after 7 days). You can extend once by 90 days, or delete everything yourself at any time.
Can I get a refund?
Full refund within 14 days of paying if you have not downloaded your report. Once you have downloaded it, we can only refund if something went wrong on our side.
